White Abelia - #208
"Abelia x grandiflora"
- Angiosperm
- Natural Habitat - A part of the large Caprifoliaceae plant family. Origins from south east Asia, and Mexico.
- Leaf Pattern - Glossy, dark green, turn "bronzey red" (NCSU) in the winter. The White Abelia also grows small flowers during the beginning of spring. Most of the time they are white, but they can come in pink, or red as autumn progresses.
- Germination Process - Coming from a class of 15-30 other Abelias, this one can get 5 to 8 feet tall and around 5 feet wide consistently.
- Ethnobotony - This shrub can be used in multiple ways. It can be trimmed as hedges, and they could be lined up in any direction.
- Animals Asscosiated: Bees tended to buzz around this shrub when I was photographing the plant.
- Bark: Thin and light gray, tends to peel easily.
Current Research :
The White Abelia turned out to be one of many Abelia species. This particular one came from south-east Asia. It is a part of the fairly large Caprifollaceae plant family. The leaves are around relatively small, along with many white flowers (hence the name White Abelia). Sometimes the flowers can be pink though. This abelia is very popular to use as a trimmed hedge, or else it gets messy (just observe the photo above).
Creative Write:
