Sasanqua - #203
"Camellia sasanqua"
- Type-The Sasanqua or the “Camellia Sasanqua” is classified as an angiosperm
- Origin-The Sasanqua originated in Japan, and its natural habitat includes forest clearings and on the slopes of mountains (KEW, 2013).
- Germination Process-There is great variability when plating new Sasanqua seeds. The seed needs to be in a moist environment for germination to take place. Some experts say to crack the seed before plating it. Overall, the process of blooming could take several years (Camellia Web).
- Type of Seed (Fruit) -The Camellia Sasanqua does not have a fruit, but instead have flowers that bloom as either pink or white.
- Species of Animal/Plant that occur there -The threat of disease is much greater than the harm that insects can have on its well being. The Sasanqua shrub tends to have more issues if it is in a poor location or there is poor drainage (Wilson..., 2013).
- Leaf Pattern-The texture of the leaf is glossy and has a bright green color. The leaves are typically an inch long by an inch wide.
- Type of Bark-The Sasanqua Camellia is a shrub and therefore does not truly have a bark. However the branches of the shrub are very thin and are as thin as a nail.
- Ethnobotany- The Sasanqua needs an environment of rich, acidic and organic soil. The Sasanqua needs only partial sun but can still live in a full sun habitat (Floridata, 2013).
